Xishan district situats in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta of Southeast Jiangsu and north-eastern of Wuxi. It has a location with Taihu Lake to the south, Yangtze River in its north, Suzhou and Changshu in its east. It is 128 km from Shanghai in the east and 177 km from Nanjing in the west. Being convenient in transportation of waterway, highway and airway, it is the center for Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou. The Shanghai-Nanjing, Shanghai-Jiangyin (Beijing-Shanghai) Expressways are nterconnected in the district. No.312 National Highway and Beijing-Shanghai railway cut through it.The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs close to its border, and Wuxi Airport is 15 kilometers away from it.
Xishan is the cradle of Wu culture. There are three ancient towns of Dangkou, Yanjiaqiao and Huangtutang, including some historical and cultural relics such as Wanshan Stone Pagoda, the former residence of Hua Hengfang, ancestral home of Abing and the ecological protection stone tablet from Qing Dynasty.
